For the Milan Design Week of 2014, Maison Matthan Gori showcased a Wedding dress made from wood: the oldest known material to humankind, malleable and sustainable.
During the history of costume and fashion, women have found themselves using corsets that have forced their body to take a different form, an unnatural shape. The female body has been asked to adapt to different forms throughout history. With this project we wanted to pay homage to women who have suffered and continue to so because of societal, physical and mental constraints, creating a wedding dress made of wood. And this is how Wood-ing Gown was born: a hand crafted Wedding Dress fashioned primarily by Oak Wood.
